The Musical Styling of Jaimisen Michael

Jaimisen has quite the variety of songs that he likes to sing;

Red Robyn

Tonight, JD, Jaimisen and I went to Red Robin for dinner. I had told Jaimisen before we left the house that we were going to meet JD for dinner at Red Robin. When we sat down at Red Robin, Jaimisen kept asking "Where is red robin???" I kept telling him the name of the place we were eating was Red Robin or the name of the little bird on his coloring page was named red robin. He was never satisfied and I didn't understand what answer he was looking for. When we were in the car heading home, Jaimisen started to get upset with me and said, "No Mom! Wait! Red robin is waiting for us!" and "We have to meet red robin!" All of a sudden it hit me. He was talking about Robyn, one of the girls I coach. I asked, "Are you talking about Robyn the girl from Northgate?" and he replied with "YAAAAHHH!!!" like I was a complete idiot. I felt so bad and explained to him that we weren't going to meet Robyn, we just went to a place to eat called Red Robin. He seemed a little confused still so I told him we would go see Robyn next week at Northgate and then he was happy. Poor kid. So confused. He thought he was going to see his girlfriend. Yes, he is in love with Robyn. Haha.

Ribbon Stick

During MyGym on Thursday, one of their gymnastic skills was balancing on the balance beam holding a ribbon stick and waving it up and down. They have used this ribbon stick before and Jaimisen is absolutely fascinated with it. When it was his turn on the balance beam, he was more interested in waving and watching the ribbon stick go up and down than he was at making sure his feet were still on the balance beam. He kept asking Aimee if he could "hold it just for a little bit" and she kept telling him he had to let the other kids use it. He waited patiently until all the kids were done and she let him play with it for a little longer before putting it away. She asked me if he had something like it at home and when I told her he didn't, she said she was going to give him one from MyGym because they have a few. After class, she called me over to the side away from everyone else and gave me a wrapped up ribbon stick. I gave it to Jaimisen in the car out of sight from the other kids and he absolutely loves it. His eyes got all wide as he gasped and said "RIBBON STICK!!!" I told him Aimee was letting him have it since he was such a good listener. He brings it everywhere now.

Preschool

Last night my mom, Caitlynn, Jaimisen and I went to the Open House at Walnut Creek Christian Academy. This is the preschool that, ideally, I would like Jaimisen to go to. Carissa and Caitlynn, my cousins, both went there and had a good experience so I know I can trust the school. That's my main issue I guess. While Jaimisen is still little, I need to know I can trust where he is going to be all day. As he gets older, he will be able to tell me if bad things happen or what's going on at his school but while he's little, he won't necessarily do that.
Anyway, I loved it there. They had the gym filled with tables separated by grade. We went over to the preschool area and met one of the pre-k teachers. She showed us around all the preschool and pre-k rooms. She was VERY nice and Jaimisen LOVED every room he saw. He was in absolute heaven; tons of toys he has never seen before. The teacher just kept laughing at him because he had the biggest smile on his face and kept racing from one toy to the next. I swear he was just trying to make sure he touched everything at least once. Haha. I asked him if he liked it at the school and he said "YAAAHHH!!! I liiiiiiike it!" The teacher responded with "Good! I did my job!" Haha. Every time I asked him if he wanted to go to school there he responded with a big, Yes! I even asked him again this morning if he remembered the school we went to and if he wanted to go there and he said, "Yah. I go all by myself next time!" I explained to him that he was right! It would be just like his Church Class; I would drop him off and give him a hug and say bye, then he would play, then I would come back and get him later. He seemed excited about that. Haha.
They have two preschool classes; one for older and one for younger kids. The youngest they can be to start is 2 years, 9 months. Jaimisen will be 3 years, 3 months when he starts. The teacher that showed us around said he may start in the older preschool class. She said she wasn't sure of the exact cutoff months but the preschool director would be able to tell me. Then they go into pre-k when they are 4-5 years old. They have a daily schedule that's posted on the wall. They have the same schedule every single day which is good. There is even a nap included! They seem to have a really good schedule of the entire school year which, of course, I like :)
All in all, it went really well. Jaimisen has a beyond great memory of the school and I know he's really going to like it there.

Strange Sleeper

So over the past weekish, Jaimisen has decided to fall asleep in the strangest places! Check these out:

Today Evan had one of his friends from the Police Academy over for the afternoon. They played some guitar hero and it wasn't long before Jaimisen decided he wanted to be one of the guys and join in.

A True Man

Jaimisen knows how to use the remote now; a true man. When he's watching shows I have recorded on the TV, he knows how to fast forward through the commercials and then push play when his show comes back on. It's pretty hilarious.

Tonight I was tucking Jaimisen in and I said "I love you Jaimisen Michael" and he replied "I love you too Mommy Michael" Hahaha. Silly kid.

Sicky Update

Jaimisen is fever-free! He went all day yesterday with no fever, thank goodness. He still has a pretty nasty cough but that's all that remains of the demon cold. He is back to his normal stinker self. I think we took about five steps back in the "good listening" department though. Since he was pretty inactive for about six days, he has a lot of catching up to do I guess. He will get back on track though. He is currently sitting in timeout in his room in his bed. Haha. He is also grunting and moaning and groaning about it.

Funny story:
Jaimisen's little underwear have been getting to small for him lately so the other day I went out to get him 4t underwear. Can you believe it??? He needs 4t!! Anyway, my dad keeps telling me to get him "cool boxer briefs" so in addition to the 7-pack of Disney Pixar underwear I got him, I also got a 3-pack of boxer briefs for Jaimisen to try. When I got home of course Jaimisen asked "What you got for me?" I showed him and proceeded to try them on. I put on the boxer briefs first and Jaimisen says, "Wait Mom! I need underwear on first!" Hahaha! He doesn't quite understand the concept of boxer briefs. Oh well. He has room to grow in them anyway!

When did my two year old get this vocabulary?? I didn't know he knew the word "myself" and don't most two year olds say "I'm not doing good," not "I'm not doing very WELL." Haha.

Sicky Baby

I decided last night after he told me his chest hurt that I was taking Jaimisen to the doctor today. He woke up at 6am this morning gagging, coughing and crying. He is also losing his voice so when he opens his mouth to cry sometimes no sound actually comes out. It's so sad. I took him in and the doctor said he only has a cold "for now." Chest, ears and throat were all clear. But the way the doctor said it made it seem like he was expecting his "cold" to turn into something in the next couple of days. He told me if Jaimisen still has a fever by Tuesday night, then call back and bring him in first thing Wednesday morning. Jaimisen hasn't improved at all today. He wants to get up and play so bad but I am trying to force him to sit. He will get so upset with me and say "No mommy! I have to play with Zoey!" So this is really hard for him. And when I say he wants to get up and play, it's not the normal play he usually does. He basically just doesn't want to keep sitting. The past three nights he has fallen asleep between 6 and 630pm; his usual bedtime is 9pm and even then I have to put him in his bed and tell him it's bedtime. He never just falls asleep by himself. He's so tired but can't sleep because of his nasty cough. At this point I'm almost hoping he has something diagnosable so the doctor can prescribe him a medicine so he can get better. I hate seeing him like this and knowing there is nothing I can do and just have to wait it out :(

For the Godmommies

So Jaimisen's godmommies have been HARASSING me about updating Jaimisen's blog more. Haha. I explained to them that nothing has happened that I can write about! That didn't stop their persistence. However, it did get me thinking. I realized that there are a lot of things that I don't consider "worth" writing about because they are normal, everyday things to me. But to his godmommies, who live in Nebraska and New Orleans, everything is new and exciting! So I am promising them that I will do my absolute best to update the blog at least every other day, no matter how short it may be; tell a funny story about something Jaimisen did, something new he learned, anything.
For the past few days Jaimisen has been spiking 101+ fevers :( It's strange because he usually has a fever right in the morning, then it goes away and he acts completely fine the rest of the day and then it spikes back up at night again. Last night he fell asleep at 7pm sitting in my mom's lap which is COMPLETELY unlike him. Tonight he fell asleep at Evan's Police Academy dinner at 6:30 and only woke up because I needed to put a pullup on him if he was going to sleep. He was awake for about an hour and went back to sleep. It was short lived because after about 30 minutes, he woke up acting like he needed to throw up. But since he hasn't eaten all day, there was nothing for him to throw up :( Poor baby.
We have been doing flash cards lately working on his numbers. He can correctly identify numbers 0-10 with only slight confusion on 8 and 9. He can almost count to twenty on his own. His only problem is skipping from 14 to 18. Haha. He can identify his entire alphabet with basically no problem.
We were supposed to go to Tahoe for this week but the threat of being snowed in has kept us home. I needed to be home by Thursday and it's supposed to snow all week until next Sunday. Not just snow, snowstorm, full with power outage and falling trees. So we opted to stay home. Jaimisen has never seen snow so we were really looking forward to it but we have another weekend planned in February so hopefully that works out.
I'll keep everyone posted on how Jaimisen is doing with his sickbug.

Add to the Days

Jaimisen successfully completed another day of Sunday school! Let me break this down for you so you can really appreciate his accomplishments:

Sunday school days 1-3: I sat in the class in the corner. Jaimisen didn't need me to be right next to him, just a visual when he looked up to be comforted.
Sunday school day 4: I walked into the play area and handed him to the Sunday school teacher crying and not wanting to stay. When I left he was still crying. The teacher said she held him and he cried for about 7 minutes then was perfectly happy and wanted to play.
Sunday school day 5: He was excited to go, then cried the second we stepped in the door. I walked into the play area and handed him to his teacher crying. I showed him one of those books that has buttons and makes noises to go along with the story [just like the one he got for Christmas] and he was immediately excited to tell his teacher all about Christmas. He wasn't crying when I left and didn't cry for the remainder of class.
Sunday school day 6: He was unsure if he wanted to go. I reminded him about the books with buttons he could play with with his teacher and all the fun things they do in class. When we walked in the door, I took his jacket, put on his name tag and he ran in the play area without me. No crying AT ALL! I waited to see if he would look back for me, but he went right up to his teacher, asked for a book with buttons and off he ran out of sight.

How proud I am of him overshadows any sadness I have of him growing up. I know I've said this before, but he continues to amaze me.

The Holidays

The holidays have come and gone. It's been a rough holiday season for me but wonderful for Jaimisen. Christmas Eve and Christmas day plans were the usual. Christmas Eve with my dad's family and Christmas day with my mom's.
Jaimisen fell in love with Christmas the day after Thanksgiving when he started seeing christmas lights around the neighborhood. He would tell me "They have Christmas decorations. That means it's Christmas time!" He was equally amazed at Christmas lights and decorations each time he saw them. He got a wide variety of presents; toys, books, clothes. He got an even amount of each and loved every single one of them! It was such a joy watching him open his presents. This year he really understood what was going on. He also enjoyed helping other people open their presents even if the gift inside wasn't for him.
New Year's was pretty uneventful yet fun at the same time. My brother was gone for the weekend and my parents went out for dinner and a movie so Jaimisen and I had the house to ourselves for a while. I told Jaimisen if he was a good boy and didn't get an attitude, he could "stay up until happy new year." I was interested to see how long he would make it. I honestly thought he would make it no problem judging from the energy he always has at night. He ended up passing out around 10:40pm. We had watched movies, played games, and sang and danced. Obviously that was enough to use up his usual nighttime energy. Maybe he will make it next year.
On another note, Jaimisen has stayed at Sunday School twice by himself now. The first time only crying for five minutes after I left him and the second time not crying at all when I left. He also got the opportunity to hang out at MyGym for two one-hour sessions without me with absolutely no problem. I'm so happy he is learning to adjust without me so quickly. My hope is by the time he starts preschool next fall, he will have no problem staying without mom :)
Jaimisen really has been my saving grace during this holiday season. He has been my reason to smile and laugh. I am so incredibly thankful for my handsome little man and the role he plays in my life. When I'm sad he wipes my tears and says "I'll take care of you." Then when he makes me smile he says "You're happy!" and is so proud of himself. He reads my emotions so amazingly well and always knows what to do to make things better. I could not ask for a better little boy.
